Principal's Message
A Warm Welcome to the School Year!
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
It is with immense enthusiasm that I extend a warm welcome to the 2024-25 school year. My name is Claudia Serrano, and it is an absolute honor to be embarking on my 12th year as the Principal of Longfellow Elementary School. I bring with me 29 years of experience in education, all of which I have dedicated to the Pasco School District.
My journey in education began as a 3rd-5th grade bilingual teacher at Robert Frost Elementary. Over the years, I had the privilege of serving in various roles, including Assistant Principal at Virgie Robinson, Maya Angelou, Rowena Chess, Robert Frost, and Stevens Middle School, before assuming my current position as Principal of Longfellow Elementary.
I am genuinely excited to lead Longfellow Elementary, a school where we empower ALL students to harness their D.R.I.V.E. to attain their highest level of achievement. We achieve this through a focus on learning and nurturing relationships within a safe and supportive environment.
The Longfellow staff is a community of educators who wholeheartedly believe in closing the achievement gap by preparing every student for college readiness and success in a global society, and we do this through our commitment to AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). In a community where 96% of our students identify as Hispanic/Latino, we celebrate bilingualism and biliteracy, primarily through our One-Way Dual Language Program. Our teachers also prioritize the social and emotional well-being of our students by explicitly teaching skills that promote mental well-being and conflict resolution as essential tools for lifelong success.
As a community of learners, our teachers engage in regular collaboration within Professional Learning Communities to ensure that students are immersed in inquiry-based, grade-level content that challenges them to think critically while mastering grade-level standards. We highly encourage parents to partner with us throughout the year, including our monthly Action Team for Partnership (ATP) meetings. We believe that, now more than ever, it takes a village to nurture educated and responsible individuals.
I eagerly look forward to partnering with each of you in educating and supporting your child as they journey toward success. Once again, it is a profound honor to serve this remarkable school community.
Here's to a year filled with growth, learning, and shared achievements!
Warm regards,
Claudia Serrano
